Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has accused the Nigeria Police Force of colluding with suspected All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs to intimidate voters and disrupt the ongoing governorship election.
Adeleke made the allegation on Saturday shortly after casting his ballot at Ward 2, Polling Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area of the state.
The governor alleged that he had received reports of violence and voter intimidation in Modakeke and Obaagun, claiming that suspected thugs were attempting to scare voters away from polling units.
He said the situation had been reported to the relevant security authorities, urging them to intervene before the incidents escalated.
Adeleke also alleged that a police officer known by the nickname “London” had been brought from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to disrupt voting in Ede.
“I was reliably informed that the APC brought a police officer from Port Harcourt to carry out an attack job. They call him ‘London’. He is here in Ede, and his assignment is to create fear and scare people away from voting. I am calling on the inspector-general of police and all security agencies to take note and redeploy him. We do not want violence in Osun,” he said.
The governor further alleged that there were attempts to manipulate the collation of results, insisting that the process must follow the established sequence from polling units to wards and then local government areas.
He also warned against alleged plans to introduce fake ballot papers into the process, urging residents and electoral officials to remain vigilant and ensure that the election reflects the wishes of the electorate.
