Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in Salzburg.
Desire Doue’s 62nd-minute goal, confirmed by VAR, secured the trophy after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had given PSG the lead in the 20th minute. Villa equalised just before half-time through 17-year-old Brian Madjo, who volleyed in John McGinn’s cross to become the youngest scorer in Super Cup history.
Madjo, who had earlier missed two chances, made a strong impact after being cleared to play following a successful CAS appeal over his registration.
Villa created several chances but were denied by PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, while Unai Emery suffered a fourth Super Cup final defeat. PSG, meanwhile, lifted the trophy for a second straight year.
Somali referee Omar Artan also made history as the first non-European to officiate the Super Cup.
