Enekwechi Wins Commonwealth Shot Put Gold For Nigeria

Team Nigeria’s medal haul at the 2026 Commonwealth Games received another major boost on Friday as Chukwuebuka Enekwechi claimed the men’s shot put gold medal with a championship-winning throw of 21.07m at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.

Enekwechi edged New Zealand’s Tom Walsh in a thrilling contest, with Walsh settling for silver after throwing 21.03m. England’s Scott Lincoln claimed bronze with a best effort of 20.99m.

The Nigerian’s winning throw proved decisive in one of the closest field event finals of the Games, with only four centimetres separating the top three finishers.

South Africa’s Aiden Smith finished fourth with 20.31m, while India’s Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Australia’s Nick Palmer both recorded 20.27m to place fifth and sixth respectively.

The victory adds another gold medal to Team Nigeria’s growing tally in Glasgow and reinforces Enekwechi’s reputation as one of Africa’s finest shot put athletes. His calm and consistent performance under pressure proved enough to outclass a world-class field of experienced competitors.

Enekwechi’s triumph also continues Nigeria’s impressive athletics campaign at the Commonwealth Games, providing another memorable moment for Team Nigeria as it pursues more medals before the competition concludes.
