The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed the recovery of the body of a victim trapped in one of the vehicles involved in multiple crashes at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as rescue and recovery operations continued on Friday.
The crashes occurred in the early hours of Friday on the busy expressway, prompting emergency responders to launch rescue efforts and traffic management operations at the scene.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos Sector Command Spokesperson, Superintendent Route Commander (SRC) Elizabeth Oluwadamilola Jayeola, the body of the trapped victim was successfully recovered and evacuated to Idera Hospital Mortuary.
The FRSC also disclosed that two injured victims were rescued from the crash scene and taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre, where they are receiving medical treatment.
The agency said recovery operations were progressing steadily, with four of the crashed vehicles already removed from the scene. It added that efforts were now focused on evacuating a trapped Toyota Sienna and the remaining articulated truck involved in the crashes.
According to the statement, the ongoing recovery requires the cargo carried by the articulated truck to be offloaded before heavy-duty recovery equipment can safely remove both vehicles from the scene.
The FRSC Lagos said its personnel, working alongside other emergency response agencies, remained at the crash site to coordinate rescue and recovery operations, manage traffic, and prevent secondary crashes while ensuring the safe movement of motorists.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, thanked motorists for their patience and cooperation, urging road users travelling through the Kara Bridge corridor, both inward and outward, to exercise caution, obey traffic officials, and use alternative routes where necessary until the recovery exercise is completed.
He reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives, restoring normal traffic flow, and promoting safer roads.
