Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has donated ₦2 million to the players of Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, as they intensify preparations for the WAFU B U-20 Championship, scheduled to hold in Côte d’Ivoire from July 26 to August 9.
Musa, Nigeria’s most-capped international with 111 appearances for the Super Eagles, presented the cash gift through the Flying Eagles’ coordinator, Alhaji Abubakar Abubakar.
Speaking through the coordinator, Musa urged the players to remain focused and disciplined ahead of the regional championship, which will determine the WAFU B representatives for next year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, who also featured for the Flying Eagles during his playing days, reminded the players that success at the U-20 level often lays the foundation for a successful professional career.
Musa recalled helping Nigeria win the 2011 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in South Africa, noting that performances at youth level can shape a player’s future in the game.
Responding on behalf of the team, Flying Eagles captain Simon Habila thanked Musa for the generous donation and words of encouragement.
Habila assured the former Super Eagles skipper that the players are working hard in training and are fully committed to delivering a strong performance at the tournament.
The Flying Eagles are preparing to compete in the WAFU B U-20 Championship, with qualification for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations at stake.
