Colombia Seal Knockout Spot With Congo Win

Daniel Munoz’s deflected strike earned Colombia a hard-fought win over DR Congo and sealed their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage.
Backed by a largely Colombian crowd in Guadalajara, Colombia dominated but wasted several chances before Muñoz broke the deadlock in the 76th minute, turning in Juan Fernando Quintero’s pass with a shot that deflected past Lionel Mpasi.
It was Colombia’s second straight Group K win, sending them top of the table and into the Round of 32. DR Congo remain third and must beat Uzbekistan in their final match to stay alive.
Munoz had earlier gone close twice, while Mpasi kept Congo in the game with several saves. Luis Díaz also missed a clear chance after the break before Munoz finally delivered the winner.
