Lagos Assembly Committee Inspects ‘Door of Return’, ‘Point of No Return’ Projects
The Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Solomon Bonu, has led members of the committee on an oversight inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the Point of No Return and Door of Return tourism projects in Badagry.
The visit was aimed at assessing the progress of work on the projects and ensuring their timely completion as part of efforts to boost tourism and preserve Lagos State’s rich historical heritage.
Speaking during the inspection, Bonu expressed satisfaction with the level of work already completed, noting that contractors had assured the committee that the projects would be delivered within the stipulated timeframe.
He said the completion of the Point of No Return and Door of Return projects would significantly enhance tourism development in Lagos State and further position Badagry as a major destination on the global tourism map.
Bonu explained that the oversight visit became necessary following reports and social media speculation suggesting that the projects had been abandoned.
He noted that the reconstruction project was initiated before his appointment as Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring its successful completion.
Also speaking, Hon. Jubril AbdulKareem, who represents Agege Constituency II and is a member of the committee, said the lawmakers deemed it necessary to inspect the projects firsthand in order to ascertain their true status and provide the public with accurate information.
Project Supervisor, Mr. Adelaja Oshaba, assured the committee that work was progressing according to schedule and pledged that the projects would be completed within the next six months.
The Baale of Gberefu, Chief Semande Hubngbo, commended the pace of work and expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the committee for their sustained interest in the development of the historic site.
