Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal for the Gunners in a tense encounter that also saw the German midfielder avoid a possible red card following a Video Assistant Referee review.
The win leaves Arsenal five points clear of second-placed Manchester City F.C., although Pep Guardiola’s side still have two games in hand, beginning with Tuesday’s clash against AFC Bournemouth.
Should City fail to secure maximum points against Bournemouth, Arsenal would be confirmed as Premier League champions.
Manager Mikel Arteta named an attack-minded lineup against the already relegated Burnley side, and the hosts dominated possession from the opening whistle.
Despite creating several early chances, Arsenal had to wait until the 37th minute to break the deadlock when Havertz headed home from a trademark corner delivered by Bukayo Saka.
Before the breakthrough, Leandro Trossard came close with a powerful effort that struck the post, while Saka also caused problems down the flank with a dangerous cross that flashed across Burnley’s goalmouth.
The victory puts Arsenal within touching distance of their first Premier League title in 22 years. Even if Manchester City defeat Bournemouth, Arteta’s side will still secure the crown with a win over Crystal Palace F.C. on Sunday.
