The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is gradually sliding into political irrelevance across Nigeria due to persistent internal crises and lack of direction.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said the opposition party had declined from what was once considered a major national political platform into what he described as a weakened structure struggling to remain relevant.
Oladejo said the leadership crisis, internal divisions and absence of clear ideological direction within the PDP had significantly undermined the party’s standing in Nigeria’s political landscape.
He noted that the party, which governed the country for several years, left behind deep institutional and economic challenges that the current administration is still working to address.
According to him, many Nigerians remember the PDP’s years in power with regret, claiming the period was characterised by widespread mismanagement, institutional decay and economic distortions.
Oladejo added that instead of rebuilding after losing power, the opposition party has continued to grapple with internal discord and what he described as a lack of a unifying national vision.
He said the PDP’s presence in Lagos State has steadily diminished as residents continue to place their trust in the development-oriented policies of the APC.
While acknowledging the importance of opposition parties in a democracy, Oladejo urged the PDP to reflect on its current state, stressing that Nigerian democracy deserves a more organised and responsible opposition.
