Matawalle Welcomes Governor Lawal To APC, Seeks Stronger Federal–State Collaboration

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has welcomed the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the development as a positive step for the political and developmental future of the state.

Matawalle, in a statement issued on Monday, said Lawal’s decision to join the ruling party was both encouraging and long anticipated, noting that it reflects a shared commitment to the growth, stability and prosperity of Zamfara.

According to the minister, the APC has over the years established itself as a platform for progressive ideals, democratic advancement and purposeful governance across Nigeria.

He added that the governor’s alignment with the party at the centre would foster a stronger working relationship between Zamfara and the Federal Government.

Matawalle noted that the development would open up opportunities for greater collaboration and support for policies and programmes aimed at accelerating development in the state.

The minister also linked the political realignment to ongoing security concerns in Zamfara, stressing that closer cooperation between the state and federal authorities would improve efforts to tackle insecurity.

He said the situation requires unity of purpose and strategic coordination, expressing confidence that the governor’s membership in the APC would enhance joint efforts to restore peace and stability in the state.

“As the Minister of State for Defence, I look forward to strengthening this cooperation so that we can collectively deliver the security and stability our people deserve,” he said.

Matawalle further noted that the decision comes at a significant time as political actors begin to position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
