The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections, now set to hold on Saturday, 16th January 2027.
The announcement was made by Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement issued Thursday in Abuja.
Earlier, INEC had originally fixed the presidential and National Assembly elections for 20th February 2027, with the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for 6th March 2027, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
With the new adjustment, the governorship and state houses of assembly elections will take place on Saturday, 6th February 2027.
Haruna explained that the change was aimed at ensuring a smoother electoral process across the country, although detailed reasons were not provided.
The commission assured Nigerians that all preparations for the polls are ongoing and urged political parties, stakeholders, and voters to note the revised dates.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, stressing that voters should remain vigilant and participate fully in the democratic process.
