NITDA Backs States With Data-Driven Systems To Boost Service Delivery, Growth
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sub-national governments in building integrated, data-driven systems to enhance service delivery and promote sustainable growth.
The pledge was reiterated at the Future Enterprise and Data Architecture of Abia State workshop themed “One Citizen, One Identity: Unlocking Data-Driven Governance,” which brought together policymakers, technocrats and development partners to advance a unified and citizen-centric digital public sector.
The workshop, organised by Abia State’s Ministry of Budget and Planning, was declared open by Governor Alex Otti, represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu. Discussions focused on strengthening interoperability among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to boost revenue generation and improve service delivery.
Speaking during a panel session titled “Breaking Silos, Building One Government,” NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented by Dr. Aristotle Onumo, stressed that partnership and collaboration are essential to building a unified government system.
He noted that digital transformation extends beyond technology deployment to include people and institutional culture, warning that resistance to change and entrenched silos could undermine reform efforts.
Inuwa highlighted digital literacy as a core pillar of NITDA’s strategy, disclosing plans to achieve 70 per cent digital literacy nationwide, including training 30 million Nigerians across formal and informal sectors through structured interventions and partnerships.
He added that digital education is being integrated into school curricula at all levels, while civil servants are undergoing capacity development programmes to prepare for interoperable governance systems.
Describing interoperability as a necessity for data integrity and innovation, the NITDA boss said the agency is developing a national framework to enable seamless data exchange across institutions, while also fostering innovation and stronger federal–state collaboration to drive socio-economic impact.
