LASG Probes Ambulance Incident At 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Finish Line

 

 

The Lagos State Government on Sunday confirmed it is investigating an unfortunate incident that occurred on February 14, 2026, near the finishing line of the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, said an ambulance deployed as part of the event’s official medical emergency response was involved in an incident in which a female non-athlete within the event arena came into contact with the vehicle, saying that the ambulance was transporting athletes who had earlier required medical attention.

Omotoso said officials immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop after noticing the situation. The emergency medical team promptly assessed the affected woman and provided immediate care at the scene before transferring her to a public health facility for further evaluation.

According to him, the woman sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised at the scene. Her vital signs were confirmed to be stable, and she is currently receiving medical care and responding positively to treatment.

He added that the Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are closely monitoring the situation, with senior government officials paying visits to the hospital.

Omotoso assured that the patient remains stable and under close professional supervision, noting that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.
