Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that good governance will continue in the state even after the expiration of his tenure in May 2027.
The governor gave the assurance on Sunday during a thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral of St Peter’s, Aremo, Ibadan, as part of activities marking the ongoing 50th anniversary of Oyo State.
Makinde said members of his administration, with whom he has delivered people-oriented governance, remain united and prepared to sustain the progress recorded under his leadership in different capacities.
He noted that his administration has laid strong foundations for the future of the state, stressing that governance under his watch has been guided by God’s will and a commitment to public service.
The governor also attributed his emergence as governor in 2019 to divine grace, describing his tenure as a “new beginning” for Oyo State, and urged residents not to allow the state to regress after the golden jubilee celebrations.
The thanksgiving service was attended by dignitaries including former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, who commended Makinde’s leadership style and development efforts in the state.
Oyo State was created on February 3, 1976, from the former Western Region, with Ibadan as its capital, and the state government has lined up a week-long programme of events to commemorate its 50th anniversary.
