Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday in Marrakesh sealed their place in the semi-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 2–0 win over Algeria.
The Nigerians never left anyone in doubt about their readiness to ride on the back of the North Africans, delivering a domineering performance.
Despite having the game under control, with the Algerians struggling to curtail them, the Eagles could not find the back of the net as the first half ended goalless.
The Eric Chelle-led side discovered their goal-scoring form after the restart, with Victor Osimhen breaking the deadlock in the 47th minute, heading home Frank Onyedika’s cross.
Adams Akor added the second goal five minutes later as he calmly slotted the ball in after dribbling past the Algerian goalkeeper, with Osimhen providing the assist.
The victory means Nigeria continue their sterling performance in Morocco and have sealed a semi-final ticket where the Eagles will confront the host nation, Morocco.
It was sweet revenge for Nigeria, who lost 1–2 to the Algerians in the semi-final of the tournament in 2019.
