Edo Tightens Healthcare Regulation, Deploy Mobile Inspection Units

The Edo Healthcare Regulation and Monitoring Agency (EDOHERMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to stricter healthcare regulation to protect patients, eliminate quackery and improve service quality.
Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin said the agency is intensifying enforcement under Section 27 of the EDOHERMA Law to ensure compliance and transparency across healthcare facilities.
She announced the deployment of Mobile Health Inspection Units to conduct routine and unannounced inspections, as well as investigate public complaints.
Dr. Urhoghide-Edigin warned that facilities violating the law will face sanctions, noting that EDOHERMA is the sole body responsible for regulating and inspecting healthcare facilities in the state.
She added that all related regulatory activities must be coordinated through the agency, while efforts are ongoing to harmonise levies into a single, transparent system.
According to her, the reforms aim to strengthen oversight, streamline regulation and eliminate illegal practices in the health sector.
She urged residents to report quackery and poor service through official channels, assuring confidentiality and prompt action.
The CEO credited Governor Monday Okpebholo’s support for the reforms and reaffirmed EDOHERMA’s commitment to a safer, more accountable healthcare system in Edo State.
