Eno Commissions Ultra-Modern Health Centre in Eket, Warns Against Vandalism

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Monday commissioned an ultra-modern primary healthcare centre in Nduo Eduo, Eket Local Government Area, urging community leaders and residents to protect and properly maintain the facility for the benefit of all.

The governor said the centre belongs to the people and should be well utilised and safeguarded against vandalism, stressing that it was built to serve families and improve access to quality healthcare at the grassroots.

Eno explained that the project was delivered under the one-project-per-local-government initiative, fulfilling a campaign promise to the people of Nduo Eduo and the late Elder Ekwo. He commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, and other stakeholders for ensuring the project’s timely completion.

The governor expressed displeasure that several local government areas were yet to complete their assigned projects under the initiative, noting that nine LGAs had failed to deliver more than two years into his administration. He directed that contracts for the affected projects be terminated.

He also warned contractors against abandoning projects or seeking cost variations after failing to meet specifications, stating that those found culpable after a financial audit would be held accountable for funds already released.

Governor Eno further appealed to residents of Eket to maintain peace and avoid disrupting the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project, which is mapped to pass through the Stubbs Creek area.

Giving an overview of the project, Health Commissioner Dr. Ekem John described the facility as a fully equipped, solar-powered health centre offering services such as emergency care, laboratory diagnostics, immunisation, nutrition services, and staff accommodation. He said it was a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the area.
