Ahead of Polls, Lagos APC Plans Membership Database, Sets January 5 For E-Registration
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to establish a comprehensive database of its members across the state as part of efforts to strengthen internal organisation and prepare for future elections.
The party’s Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said the initiative is aimed at improving planning and ensuring that committed members are properly identified and rewarded.
Ojelabi disclosed this at an end-of-year media briefing on Friday at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja, where he said the APC remains well positioned to retain power in Lagos, noting that the performance of its public office holders continues to attract members from other political parties.
“We want to have a database of our party members so that we can go into the next general elections fully prepared. We need statistical data of our actual members,” he said.
According to him, the party’s National Executive Council has resolved that membership must be meaningful, stressing the importance of voter participation. He said members without Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) undermine the strength of the party, hence the decision to embark on electronic registration.
Ojelabi explained that both new and existing members would be captured in the exercise, with current members undergoing revalidation. He added that the registration would take place in all the 245 wards recognised by the party constitution, starting from January 5.
The APC chairman also urged Nigerians to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasising that peace and security are essential for national development and require collective responsibility.
On local government administration, Ojelabi said a committee had concluded the identification of qualified individuals for cabinet appointments across the wards, adding that the composition of the local government cabinets would be announced in the coming weeks. He also assured aspirants in the last local government elections that nomination fees would be refunded soon, in line with the directive of President Tinubu.
Addressing allegations of candidate imposition, Ojelabi dismissed the claims, saying the party prioritises loyalty, consistency and commitment. Corroborating his position, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said what is often described as imposition is consensus, which is recognised by the constitution and party guidelines, adding that the APC’s nationwide growth reflects its people-oriented policies.
