In line with the social inclusion policy of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has disbursed a total of ₦5 million to seven families blessed with multiple births, as part of efforts to ensure that all residents benefit from the dividends of good governance.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, was aimed at easing the financial burden on the families and enabling them to celebrate the yuletide season.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, said the financial support was a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its residents, particularly families facing the challenges associated with raising multiple children at once.
“This gesture is to let you know that the government has your interests at heart. What we are giving today may not fully cover what you have spent or will still spend in caring for these children, but it reflects our recognition that children are treasures who must be nurtured and properly cared for, as they are the future leaders of our society,” Ogunlende said.
He added that providing a solid foundation for children requires significant financial and emotional investment, stressing that the quality of care given today would determine the kind of adults they become tomorrow.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed delight at seeing the triplets and quadruplets, urging parents to be grateful to God and to remain committed to the proper upbringing of the children.
She explained that the social inclusion policy of Governor Sanwo-Olu cuts across tribe and religion, noting that the selection of beneficiaries was transparent and conducted annually. According to her, families qualify for the support provided the children were born in Lagos State and the parents are residents of the state.
“As a ministry, we have a social responsibility to contribute to the proper care and development of our children, which is why the Child Development Department was established,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Uwaoma Odili expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for the financial assistance and its accessibility to residents of the state.
Odili also commended the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for the professionalism of its medical personnel, which ensured the safe delivery of his quadruplets.
