Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced that construction of a College of Nursing Sciences at Kofawe will commence next year, following the approval of the project by the State Executive Council.
The governor disclosed this while speaking on education and health infrastructure during his Thank-You Tour to Ilaje, adding that land for the project has already been acquired in Ilaje Local Government Area. He assured residents that more development initiatives were in the pipeline.
Highlighting major projects being executed by his administration in Ilaje Local Government Area, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced that the operating licence for the Ondo Deep Sea Port had been revalidated, describing the development as a significant economic milestone for the state. He added that the deep sea port was just one of several transformative projects planned for the area.
In a related development, the governor revealed that a fertiliser and petrochemical plant is underway, noting that the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the project’s promoters.
He also disclosed plans for a 500,000-barrel-per-day modular refinery, expressing confidence that the projects would significantly boost the local economy. According to him, the deep sea port, petrochemical plant and modular refinery will be located along the same axis within the Sunshine Free Trade Zone in Ilaje Kingdom.
In addition, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced that the contract for the development of the Araromi seaside corridor for tourism has been signed with a company mandated to execute the project. He said the initiative is part of broader efforts to unlock the tourism potential of the coastal area.
The governor further disclosed that construction of the Ondo State portion of the highway linking the state with Ogun has commenced. He said work has begun from Ebute–Pare toward Ogun State, noting that the highway will connect Ondo State through Ilaje to Lagos, Nigeria’s largest market. According to him, upon completion, travel time from the area to Lagos will be reduced to about 35 minutes.
Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked residents and supporters for their contributions to the success of his administration and urged them to take greater interest in government activities. He encouraged residents to raise concerns in areas they feel have not been adequately addressed, assuring them that the government would listen and intervene where necessary.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the APC in Ilaje Local Government Area, Hon. Raphael Adegboye, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa, describing the pace of development in the state as worthy of commendation.
