The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has intervened in the long-running crisis surrounding the Onido of Ido stool, urging all parties to maintain peace and approving the constitution of a panel of inquiry to probe the dispute.
The monarch disclosed that the panel, set up to investigate a crisis that has lingered for nearly 19 years, will be inaugurated on Monday, January 12, at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Olubadan’s Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, said although the membership of the panel was not disclosed, it would commence sitting immediately after its inauguration.
According to the statement, the committee has been mandated to examine both the immediate and remote causes of the crisis and make comprehensive recommendations to the Olubadan-in-Council aimed at achieving a permanent resolution.
The intervention followed renewed complaints by stakeholders in Ido town, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, over the worsening leadership tussle in the community.
The stakeholders noted that the town has remained unstable since 1997 following the emergence of three contenders for the Onido stool, leading to repeated appointments and counter-appointments that have further polarised the community.
The three claimants were identified as Oba Benjamin Ademola Ishola Orobiyi, Tajudeen Akinola and Muritala Babalola.
