The Edo State Government has joined the global community in commemorating World AIDS Day through a series of awareness activities coordinated by the Office of the First Lady.
The Coordinator, Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Anani, led the advocacy efforts to strengthen HIV and AIDS awareness, support, and response across the state.
Addressing staff of her Office, Mrs. Anani emphasized the need to dispel myths and misconceptions that contribute to stigma and discrimination against Persons Living with HIV and AIDS (PLHIV).
She described accurate information and awareness as powerful tools in combating the disease and fostering a more supportive environment for affected individuals.
She urged everyone to actively participate in the fight against HIV and AIDS, noting that collective efforts can help empower PLHIV rather than stigmatize them. Mrs. Anani also highlighted the importance of solidarity and sustained commitment in addressing the challenges posed by the virus.
“As we mark World AIDS Day, I encourage everyone to join us in this fight,” she said. “Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected. Our goal is a future where everyone has access to the information, services, and support they need to stay healthy and thrive.”
Mrs. Anani stressed the importance of knowing one’s HIV status through regular testing and reminded staff that HIV is a manageable condition with proper care. She reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to improving access to quality health services as part of its broader mandate.
In their remarks, the Special Duties Officer to the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Betty Okonoboh, and other staff members expressed appreciation for the awareness session, pledging to share the information with their families, friends, and communities to help amplify the message and contribute to the ongoing fight against HIV and AIDS.
