The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has completed a specialised first aid training programme for officers of the Ondo/Ekiti Area Command, aimed at strengthening emergency response during field operations.
The training, held in Akure, was approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as part of ongoing reforms to enhance safety standards and boost operational readiness across commands.
Speaking at the event, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Queen Obazee—represented by Chief Superintendent of Customs Mary Ugbebu—said the initiative underscores the Service’s renewed commitment to officer welfare and public safety.
“This training is not just a formality; it is a vital investment in your personal safety and the well-being of the communities we serve. I urge every officer to take this opportunity seriously, internalize these life-saving techniques, and remain prepared to act swiftly and competently in any emergency,” Obazee said.
She commended the NCS management for approving and funding the programme, noting that first aid competence has become essential due to the unpredictable nature of enforcement duties, which may involve accidents or urgent life-saving situations.
“We appreciate the NCS Management for initiating and funding this specialised training. It represents a significant step towards building a responsive workforce capable of providing effective pre-hospital care when required,” she added.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Aondoakura Herbert Dzungwenen, the exercise aligns with the Service’s broader strategy to strengthen professionalism, with officers across the Command actively participating.
