All 38 worshippers kidnapped during last Tuesday’s attack on the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom.
It was reported that the victims were rescued on Sunday afternoon following sustained operations by security agencies deployed to the area immediately after the incident.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was excited to announce the release of the abductees after what he called “many days of hard work.”
He added that President Bola Tinubu personally took charge of the rescue efforts, cancelling his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa and ordering reinforced security deployments to Kwara.
The governor also thanked the NSA’s office, DSS, Army, NIA, Police and vigilante groups for their roles in securing the victims’ freedom.
The attack, which left three worshippers dead, had thrown the community into mourning and sparked nationwide concern over rising insecurity in border areas of Kwara State.
