The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOE&ST) has announced plans to partner with the Community Crime Prevention Initiative of Nigeria (CCPIN), a Non-Governmental Organization and security outfit, to enhance safety and prevent crime in schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, made this known while hosting representatives of the NGO in his office in Akure.
Speaking on the urgent need to address security challenges in educational institutions, Prof. Ajibefun said, “The incidence of crime affects every fibre of society, and schools are certainly not immune to criminal activities.”
He cited recent cases of rape and secret cultism in some schools, describing them as disturbing trends that compromise the safety of students and staff.
“Any step taken to prevent such acts is a step in the right direction,” he stated.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to protecting lives and property within the education sector, noting that the partnership with CCPIN would play a vital role in preventing crime and promoting a safe learning environment.
In his remarks, the Commandant of CCPIN, High Chief Olanrewaju Olowokere, explained that the organization is recognized for providing professional security services to individuals and institutions nationwide.
He assured that CCPIN would deploy trained personnel and technical expertise to secure schools across Ondo State, adding that the initiative aims to enhance security consciousness and promote the general well-being of the public.
