Edo Strengthens Healthcare Delivery as EDOHIC, NHIA Conduct BHCPF Facility Validation
The Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDOHIC), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has carried out a validation exercise on accredited health facilities under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) across the state.
The Director-General of EDOHIC, Dr. (Mrs.) Augusta Ikpea-Enaholo, said the exercise was aimed at confirming and validating the accreditation earlier conducted by the Commission on Primary Health Centres (PHCs) providing services under the BHCPF programme.
She explained that the validation aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda, which focuses on strengthening healthcare systems to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare, especially for the poor and vulnerable in the state.
“This exercise reinforces the shared commitment between EDOHIC and NHIA to build a transparent, efficient, and equitable health system in Edo State. Through such collaboration, we continue to uphold accountability and ensure that facilities remain equipped to deliver quality care that meets national standards,” Ikpea-Enaholo stated.
A representative of the NHIA National Office, Mr. Boi Sunday, emphasized that the visit was to validate the accreditation earlier conducted by EDOHIC, noting the importance of data accuracy and proper documentation for effective service delivery.
“This validation confirms the accreditation carried out by EDOHIC. We value reliable data and documentation, and we are impressed with the level of organization and transparency observed so far,” Sunday said.
EDOHIC’s Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Dr. Owen Omorogbe, noted that the exercise provided an opportunity for both agencies to jointly assess the readiness of BHCPF facilities to deliver qualitative services, while also identifying areas for capacity building and improvement.
The validation exercise further strengthens the ongoing partnership between NHIA and EDOHIC in implementing the BHCPF, a Federal Government initiative aimed at providing free, quality primary healthcare services for the poor and vulnerable, and advancing the state’s commitment toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all Edo residents.
