In a bid to promote the collaboration of Local government councils, to achieve operational effectiveness, The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has visited Edo Central in continuation of its state wide local government tour in preparation for the 16th July, 2026 Council polls.
The tour aims to assess and strengthen the Commission’s infrastructure across the 18 local government areas in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Local elections. The EDSIEC chairmans believes that commitment from Local Councils is pivotal for the success of the elections.
During the visit, EDSIEC Chairman, Hon. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan who was represented by Hon. Dr. Suleman Ikhioriah described the tour as a strategic measure designed to ensure the successful conduct of the elections, highlighting the Commission’s commitment to organizing credible, free, fair and inclusive electoral processes at the Local Government level.
According to him, “This field visit is not merely a routine exercise. It is essential for evaluating and strengthening the infrastructure that supports our field operations. We want to ensure a smooth electoral process by examining existing Facilities, rehabilitating offices as necessary and replacing any faulty equipment”
The EDSIEC Chairman appealed for collaboration from Local Councils to bolster efforts in enhancing EDSIEC’s operational readiness, adding “A strong democracy starts with strong institutions and strong institutions require strong foundations. The readiness of our field offices is one of those foundations”. He said.
The Local Government Leaders, Hon. Ebodaghe Blessing, represented by her Vice, Hon. Sunny Idenekpoma, Esan West, Hon. Kelvin Iyere represented by Nicholas Ojeme, Esan Central, Hon. Matthew Ojeabulu, represented by Hon. Sunday Okoineme, Esan North East. Hon. Edoh Moses, Esan South East, Rt. Hon. Henshaw Elimihe, and Igueben Local Government Councils, Hon. Kenneth Adodo who was represented by the Director of Shared Services, Mrs. Ahola Ibuku pledged commitment to ensuring the EDSIEC offices function properly and are equipped with adequate infrastructure.
They recognizing the importance of a free, fair, peaceful and credible electoral processes for the upcoming elections scheduled for July 16, 2026.
The tour also witnessed the presence of several key officials, including, Commissioners, Thomas Ighomo, Barr. Hope Osarodion, Dr. Suleman Ikhioriah, Anthony Aikpoghomhe and Frank Umoru, along with Acting Secretary of EDSIEC, Mr. Emmanuel Abebe.
