In a bid to animate sustainability, the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in collaboration with TigerFireRose Media, has launched the screening of an inspiring social impact film across Public Secondary Schools and Communities in Lagos State.
The film titled “Pile of Rubbish”, is to be screened across schools and communities in Lagos State, using relativity to elucidate the benefits of proper waste management while inspiring behavioural change among citizens.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, noted the importance of storytelling as a tool for social transformation, while launching the programme, at Government Senior College, Agege. She described the initiative as a transformative tool that seeks to erupt conversations among students and the community about waste, climate action, and their role in building a sustainable Lagos through creative and participatory learning experiences.
She pressed further that the SDGs is a global scheme that concerns all aspects of human existence, from quality education and clean environment to responsible consumption and climate action, and that achieving these goals requires collective effort at all levels of society.
Dr. Finnih, who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Office of SDGs, Mr. Abdulateef Sanusi, stressed the need for everyone to become environmentally responsible, noting that individual actions and lifestyle choices have a direct impact on the environment and the quality of life for future generations.
Also, The Chief Executive Officer of TigerFireRose Media, Ms. Enitan Esiobu, remarked that the concept behind “Pile of Rubbish” was inspired by the daily realities of waste management challenges faced in many communities and the urge to tell these stories in a relatable way to drive attitudinal changes in people.
Representing Givo Africa, Ms Adetomiwa Isiaka emphasised the critical importance of recycling in protecting the environment and safeguarding the planet for future generations. According to her, small actions like sorting waste or recycling used materials collectively make a big difference in saving the planet and ensuring a sustainable future for all, through innovative solutions. She further encouraged the students to take responsibility by identifying and using recycling centres within their communities.
Students across schools in Education District 1 participated in the screening exercise, including communities in Agege, Alimosho, Idimu, Egbeda, Iju, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Meiran.
