Group Rejects Ondo PDP Congress, Demands Nullification

A group within the Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kick Against Deceit (KAD), rejected the outcome of the just-concluded state congress, describing it as deceitful and manipulated.
The group, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Protem Director of Public Communications, Hon. Bamidele Ojo, said the process was stage-managed to favour a few leaders at the expense of fairness and equity.
Ojo said the group met in Akure under the chairmanship of Olaniyi Ogungbuji, where members expressed disappointment in the conduct of the exercise and vowed to challenge its outcome before higher party authorities.
He alleged that the congress, which was supposed to consolidate internal unity, was instead marred by irregularities and backdoor deals that undermined the principles of internal democracy.
“We were told that the congress would maintain the current party positions in the respective senatorial districts and return those who have not spent up to eight years in office. But what was preached was not followed in any way,” Ojo said.
According to the group, some local governments were unfairly favoured with both national and state positions, while others got none, depending on the influence of certain party leaders.
It added that the outcome reflected favoritism rather than competence or fairness.
The statement added that the group would not allow the “charade” to stand, warning that it could destroy the foundation of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
