Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has said his relationship with colleague lawmakers is solid and intact.
Obasa who appeared on TVC’s live programme, Beyond Politics, on Thursday clarified that he is not retiring from politics but mindful of life beyond public service.
Speaking on whether he plans to retire from politics or contest the governorship in the future, Obasa said: “No. What next? Life. I’ve just said, you know, there’s life ahead. So let’s contemplate living that life.”
The Speaker stressed that while ambition is legitimate, ultimate decisions rest with party leadership.
“When we talk about politics, you have to be a member of a political party. And as a member, you must believe in the leadership of that party. At some point, you cannot determine what’s next for you on your own. Of course, you may aspire to become something, but you still have to respect the party and how it is managed.
“The party leaders will eventually sit down and decide who goes next. So, whether as a Speaker, Deputy Governor, Governor, or Senator, it’s all about consultation and engagement with party leaders. As an individual, you must align with the process,” Obasa explained.
Obasa described his relationship with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as cordial and focused on the collective progress of Lagos State.
“He’s my brother, my colleague, my partner in progress. We’ve been together for a long time. Some of the people see us as a legacy, and we’re still doing it. He has been very active, working hard, serving the people”, said Obasa.
