The Benue State House of Assembly has elected a new Speaker, Hon. Alfred Emberga Berger, who represents Makurdi North Constituency.

Berger became Speaker following resignation of Hon. Aondona Dajoh on Sunday.

The House, in an emergency plenary session, elected Berger, setting aside his suspension along with three other lawmakers on Friday.

The session, which was presided over by the deputy speaker,  Lami Ogenyi, first set aside its operating rules to allow them to carry on with the business of replacing the speaker.

Berger pledged to work with Dajoh and the lawmakers to pursue the development agenda of the state.
