The Ekiti State Government and the Rural Electrification Agency have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand access to sustainable Electricity across communities in the State.
This was disclosed by the governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, in a post on his facebook page.
Oyebanji said the collaboration was a major step to light up homes, energise businesses, strengthen rural economies, and improve the quality of life for the people.
He added that the state government had also reduced the metering gap by 80 percent through the deployment of prepaid meters, helping eliminate unfair billing practices.
Oyebanji said “I had the honour of signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to expand access to sustainable electricity across unserved and underserved communities in Ekiti State.
” This collaboration is a major step in our mission to light up homes, energise businesses, strengthen rural economies, and improve the quality of life for our people.
” Electricity remains essential for development. Our efforts are focused on powering communities, creating jobs, and unlocking opportunities for growth. Since assuming office, we have invested over four billion naira in electricity infrastructure, reconnecting more than 40 towns to the national grid and easing the burden on entrepreneurs and households across the state.
” We have also reduced the metering gap by 80 percent through the deployment of prepaid meters, helping eliminate unfair billing practices. Our Independent Power Project currently supplies 2.6MW to key government facilities, while solar infrastructure continues to be installed in general hospitals, health centres, and public schools to support critical services”.
The governor said that the partnership with REA would help scale efforts, attract private capital, and support the goal of achieving 120MW of available power by 2030, appreciating the REA team for their commitment and support.
He reaffirmed the administration’s determination to ensure that every part of Ekiti has access to reliable electricity.
