The Oyo State Police Command has urged residents to promptly report any suspicious movements in their communities to the nearest police station following alleged threats by suspected bandits in the state.
The advice was contained in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, on Saturday in Ibadan.
According to the police, suspected bandits allegedly circulated threatening notes to residents of Ikoyi-Ile in Oriire Local Government Area, warning of an attack planned for Tuesday, January 20.
The development comes days after suspected bandits reportedly attacked the Old Oyo National Park, killing five forest rangers. The park is located in Oloka village within Oriire Local Government Area.
Reacting to the reports, the police said they were aware of the notes and confirmed that individuals connected with their discovery were undergoing debriefing.
Ayanlade disclosed that the State Intelligence Department (SID), in collaboration with tactical units, had been directed to carry out intensive debriefing of all persons linked to the discovery of the notes.
He added that operational assets had been deployed and repositioned within Ikoyi-Ile and surrounding communities to enhance security.
“As part of deliberate and visible security measures, armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence surveillance and strategic area domination have been significantly reinforced,” the statement added.
