The retreat, organised by the Department of Planning, Budget, Research and Statistics, headed by Dr. Yemisi Anita Rasak, opened with a welcome address by the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko. Activities on Day One featured two key sessions. The first was a health-focused presentation by Dr. Alex titled How to Ensure Longevity,” which underscored the importance of personal wellness and sustained productivity in public service.

The second session, facilitated by Dr. Wasiu, centred on the Public Procurement Process, highlighting best practices in compliance, transparency and value-for-money in government expenditure.

In his remarks, Chairman Dauda commended the Planning and Budget Department for organising a timely and well-structured retreat, noting that a sound budget remains the backbone of effective governance. He urged participants to be strategic, realistic and innovative in their deliberations, stressing that the 2026 Budget must reflect the aspirations of Ikeja residents and align with the administration’s development agenda.

Participants also engaged in robust discussions on revenue generation in 2025, critically examining shortfalls, identifying loopholes, addressing operational challenges and proposing practical strategies to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2026.

The Budget Retreat continues on Saturday with additional technical presentations, stakeholder engagements and in-depth discussions expected to further shape a people-oriented and development-driven 2026 Budget for Ikeja Local Government.
