Lagos WAPA Rolls Out Statewide Vocational Training To Boost Jobs, Entrepreneurship

The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing admission and registration exercise at its Skills Acquisition Centres across the five administrative divisions of the state.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Cecilia Dada, made the call in a statement issued by the ministry, encouraging broad participation from residents.

She noted that the centres are strategically located in Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe divisions to ensure inclusivity, accessibility and equitable participation statewide.

According to Dada, the centres offer a wide range of vocational, entrepreneurial and computer training programmes designed to equip participants with practical, employable and income-generating skills.

She added that the courses align with the Education and Technology, as well as the Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy pillars of the state government’s THEMES Plus Development Agenda.

Programmes available include Computer Studies, Photography, Vulcanising/Wheel Balancing and Alignment, Catering and Hotel Management, Aluminium Fabrication, Textile Design, Bead Stringing and Hat Making, Textile Weaving, Refrigerator and Air Conditioning Maintenance and Repair, Welding Fabrication, Shoe and Leather Works, and Fashion Design and Dress Making, among others.

Dada described the initiative as central to the ministry’s mandate to alleviate poverty, empower women, youths and vulnerable groups, and promote self-reliance while strengthening human capital development.

She said the initiative supports Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, noting that the centres are equipped with qualified instructors and modern tools. She urged interested residents to visit any WAPA Skills Acquisition Centre for enquiries and registration, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to sustainable empowerment and improved livelihoods.
