At least 24 farmers have tragically lost their lives, in a boat accident in Gbajibo Community, Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, with several others still missing.
The victims hailed from Gbajibo, Ekwa, and Yankeiade, all within Mokwa LGA.
Chairman of Mokwa LGA, Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi, confirmed the incident, saying that local divers had recovered 21 lifeless bodies at this point.
He said ongoing efforts are in progress to locate and rescue the remaining missing victims.
While officials from the Niger State Emergency Management Agency are still gathering data to ascertain the exact number of individuals involved, they have confirmed the incident.
