Chimamanda, Baba-Ahmed Accompany Obi To Presidential Election Tribunal

Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Tuesday arrived at the presidential election petition tribunal in Abuja.

Obi was accompanied by his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed as well as award-winning novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

The tribunal is expected to adopt the written addresses of Obi, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the All Progressives Congress, and Bola Tinubu’s petitions.

Adichie openly canvassed support for the LP candidate during the 2023 electioneering campaigns.

In a letter addressed to US President Joe Biden in April, Adichie expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the February 25 election.

She said the election was fraught with discrepancies and irregularities which were overlooked by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Obi and his party had filed a joint petition in March challenging the outcome of the poll, and had asked the court to nullify Tinubu’s victory.

In their final written address dated July 20, the petitioners insisted that Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima were not qualified to contest the poll.

Earlier, the tribunal reserved judgment on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku and Obi are challenging the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the election.
