The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, has trained 500 youths in various vocational skills aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and economic empowerment across the state.
The beneficiaries were trained in five vocational areas, including computer and phone repairs, photography and videography, graphic design, cosmetology, and mixology during the Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) Programme held in Surulere.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, said the initiative demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s commitment to equipping youths with practical and marketable skills capable of generating sustainable income.
Ajigbotafe added that the training was facilitated by experienced professionals and industry experts to adequately prepare participants for success in their chosen vocations.
The Commissioner encouraged the graduands to maximise the opportunities provided by the programme by becoming productive citizens, job creators, and ambassadors of excellence within their communities.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Lolade Aina, urged beneficiaries to move beyond job seeking and embrace entrepreneurship and wealth creation, disclosing that the state government had distributed start-up kits to participants to enable them commence businesses immediately after the training.
Aina further explained that the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund would continue to support beneficiaries with access to funding and entrepreneurial opportunities needed to grow their businesses and achieve financial independence.
According to the Permanent Secretary, beneficiaries interested in accessing the loan facility are required to provide their LASSRA ID, training certificate, Tax Identification Number (TIN), and a valid government-issued identification card.
