Lagos APC Hails Tinubu’s 411% Revenue Surge as ‘Crushing Defeat’ for Opposition Predictions
The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 411% surge in revenue collection as a “crushing defeat” for opposition forecasts, welcoming the historic achievement unveiled by the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the party said the record-breaking rise in revenue within a short period demonstrates that Tinubu’s bold economic reforms are not only working but exceeding expectations.
According to the statement, the surge spans oil and non-oil revenues, VAT, customs duties, and, for the first time, direct remittances by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) into the Federation Account. “These milestones reflect transparency, efficiency and accountability in public finance — values that have long eluded our fiscal system until now,” the party said.
“The deep structural reforms initiated by President Tinubu are already strengthening Nigeria’s foundation for sustainable growth. This overwhelming revenue boom is not accidental — it is the product of purposeful leadership, sound policy direction and an uncompromising commitment to national renewal,” the statement added.
The Lagos APC also noted that the incoming tax regime in January 2026, as clarified by the FIRS, will not impose additional burdens on Nigerians but will broaden the tax net and ensure fairness. “This represents a people-centred approach to governance, where growth and responsibility go hand in hand,” it said.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, the party said: “We only have pity for the opposition whose pack of lies has, as expected, failed the test of time. It is worth reminding these prophets of doom — who gleefully predicted collapse, chaos and untold hardship — that the very reforms they mocked are now rewriting Nigeria’s economic story.”
It further stressed: “While the opposition traffics in falsehood and fear-mongering, the Tinubu administration is producing facts, figures and results that even the fiercest critic cannot deny. The recent by-election victories nationwide were already a referendum on the Tinubu administration; today’s fiscal breakthroughs only serve as further proof that Nigeria is on the right path.”
The statement concluded: “Indeed, the question ‘Is PBAT working?’ has been answered loudly and clearly by the numbers. Yes — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working, and Nigerians are witnessing a turnaround that cynics said was impossible.”
The Lagos APC congratulated President Tinubu, Dr. Zacch Adedeji and all reform-minded patriots driving the change, adding: “Together, we affirm that Nigeria will rise again. So help us God.”
