…New date to be communicated in due course – Commissioner
The Ondo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has indefinitely postponed the forthcoming Ilaje Boat Regatta due to a scheduling clash with the state’s Investment Summit.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Afolabi Adesoji.
According to Adesoji, the decision became necessary following the scheduling of the Ondo State Investment Summit on the same day as the cultural event. He explained that the adjustment would ensure adequate coordination and participation in both engagements.
He added that the postponement would also allow for enhanced planning, improved organisation, and broader stakeholder participation to deliver a more enriching cultural and tourism experience.
The statement read: “The Ondo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism wishes to inform the general public, stakeholders, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the Ilaje community that the forthcoming Ilaje Boat Regatta, earlier scheduled for the previously announced date, has been postponed.
“This decision became necessary following the scheduling of the Ondo State Investment Summit on the same day. As a government committed to maximising participation and ensuring the success of all strategic state engagements, it is important to allow adequate attention and coordination for both events. The postponement will also provide additional time for enhanced planning, improved organisation, and broader stakeholder participation, thereby ensuring that the Ilaje Boat Regatta delivers an even richer cultural and tourism experience.
“Furthermore, aligning the festival with a more suitable date will help attract increased visitors, tourists, and potential investors to our coastal region, showcasing the economic, cultural, and tourism potential of the Ilaje axis. A new date for the event will be communicated to the public in due course.”
The Ministry expressed appreciation for the understanding, cooperation, and continued support of stakeholders, assuring the public of its commitment to promoting Ondo State’s rich cultural heritage and advancing tourism development.
