The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen.
According to the statement, the cancellation does not in any way diminish the significance of the milestone anniversary, as the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm.
“All other programmes lined up for the Independence Anniversary will go ahead as planned. The Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this cancellation,” the statement read.
The Federal Government also expressed appreciation for the understanding, support and cooperation of Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests. It further urged citizens to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms aimed at building a greater nation.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has declared Wednesday, October 1, a public holiday to commemorate the anniversary.
Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960.
