Samson Adamu, a 40-year-old son of former FIFA executive, Dr. Amos Adamu, has been appointed Acting Secretary-General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a historic milestone for Nigeria and the African football community.
His appointment was ratified on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Giza Palace Hotel.
This is the first time in over 70 years that a Nigerian has occupied the highly influential administrative position within CAF.
Adamu assumes office following the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba. His appointment reflects his extensive experience, proven competence, and long-standing contributions to football administration at the continental level.
Prior to this role, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he earned widespread recognition for his innovation, coordination, and successful management of major African football competitions.
His emergence also highlights a strong family legacy in sports governance, given his father’s notable contributions to global football administration.
